Real-life kung fu fighting at Jackson Airport

PORT MORESBY: On a Sunday evening on Nov 3, 2019, passers-by at Jackson Airport’s domestic car park were “treated” to a real-life fighting scene.

One bare-chested muscular man took on five security men and was, as expected, floored and arrested.

By MARJORIE FINKEOIT was like a Bruce Lee kung fu (Chinese martial arts) fighting movie scene at the Jackson Airport on Sunday evening – and it was real.
A bare-chested muscular hunk traded kicks and punches with at least five security men, pictured, for a few minutes before he was overpowered.
The man, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, was later arrested by police.
Zone 3 police commander Chief Insp Tapp Opai told The National that the man drove his car through an automatic boom gate, bringing down the barrier, at the airport’s domestic car park.

A Black Swan security guard then stopped the man for questioning and a heated argument ensued.
The man then started damaging the ticketing machine.
Other security men, including those from the National Airport Corporation (NAC), then rushed up to check the commotion.
The man then removed his shirt to take on the security men. However, he was overpowered after a few minutes of fist fight and kicking.
“The suspect was taken to the airport police base by NAC security men. The NAC will be giving a quotation to the man to pay for the damaged parking ticket machine and automatic boom gate,” Opai said.
Airport police Second In-Charge Chief Sgt Anthon Sendy told The National that a report had been filed.
“We believe the man was behaving under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to the Gordon police station and held in a lock-up,” he added.
Sendy said the man was released later without being charged because “we are still waiting for the NAC to provide their quotation for the damage”.
“He will be charged according to the amount the NAC is claiming,” he added.
Both the NAC and Black Swan Security managements declined to comment when contacted by The National.
