News that matters in Papua New Guinea Baisu Prison 8 shot dead in PNG’s second mass prison breakout in 2020 PORT MORESBY:  Eight inmates were shot dead in a mass breakout at Baisu Prison in Mt Hagen on Monday (Feb 24, 2020). Prison wardens recaptured 28 fugitives but 66 are still on the run. It was Papua New Guinea’s second mass prison breakout this year or in two monjths (January and February). On Jan 19, the Buimo Prison breakout saw probationary prison warden Luke Makints killed and convicted murderer David Naya, 25, shot dead. Sixteen prisoners escaped and they are still on the run. Kunda has been charged with four counts of bribery while police are also looking for his deputy, Paul Amera. News that matters in Papua New Guinea     Two cop killers assassinated by rival tribesmen in Tari, four others killed in ongoing Kopija clan clashes in Hela PORT MORESBY:  Two men who killed a policeman about two years ago were assassinated by their rival tribesmen during a card gambling session that went awry on Tuesday (Feb 18, 2020) afternoon in Tari. One was armed with a factory-made pistol and the other an M-16 assault rifle. The one who was armed with an M-16 was shot dead, the other was slashed to death in the neck. Both cop killers, described by police as warlords, were brothers. And in another violence in Hela, four men were killed between Sunday and Monday (Feb 16 and 17, 2020) in an ongoing protracted Kopija clan clashes in Hela. However, the bulk of the infections and deaths are still confined to China and its epicentre - Wuhan city in Hubei. Health officials in China have on Tuesday (Feb 18, 2020) released the first details of Covid-19 cases in the biggest study since the outbreak in December.
