Nasty deaths for two killers in Madang
PORT MORESBY: Two men who had been terrorising and killing people in Madang were “slaughtered” by relatives of their victims on Sept 21, 2019.
The relatives had the two chopped up into pieces before calling the police.
Details of killers’ gory end to life were reported by The National:
Killers no more
By SYLVESTER WEMURUPOLICE say two men who had been terrorising and killing people in Madang finally tasted their own medicine when the victims’ relatives cornered and hacked them to death last Saturday.
Inspector Steven Yamalu, the officer in charge of the Criminal Investigation Division in Madang, told The National that the “revenge killing” on Renouf Rainol Gala and his accomplice known only as Eddie, took place at Berin village in Transgogol.
Villagers who were fed up with what the two men from Sihan village had been doing for so long surrounded them at around 4am at the village and hacked them to death.
“After doing that, they (villagers) called the police. So I organised police officers and we went to the crime scene,” he said.
“(We saw) that the two men (had been) chopped to pieces. The people had also dug a hole for the burial. We witnessed the burial of the killers.”
The two men’s notoriety hit the headlines on March 25 this year when they and gang members went to the village and killed Kawas Kori, his wife Melib, and their son Greg, 20, who were preparing for dinner in the family home.
Melib was breastfeeding baby Lionson who was fortunately spared by the killers.
Kawas had just returned from work at Ramu NiCo with elder brother Awakun Kori when the incident happened. The killers later placed Kawas’ body in a sitting position in the middle of the highway.
His 16-year-old son Kenimai, who fled when the killers entered their home, said mum Melib, brother Greg, cousins Duban and Russel Kori, and little brother Lionson were inside the house while his other siblings were playing outside.
Kenimai managed to jump through the window and ran to the nearby bush to hide.
Duban and Russel were attacked but managed to run out of the house. Mum Melib and Greg could not escape. Kenimai told of how he later had to retrieve the bloodied body of his baby brother.
Madang Governor Peter Yama called the killings “barbaric” and vowed to support police in bringing to justice all those involved.
In April, Madang police shot dead a member of the gang who had killed the Kori family.
Police believe that Gala and Eddie were also involved in a killing at Mawan village a week ago.
Yamalu said the gang two weeks ago were involved in another killing at Nisinis Mountain in the same district.
In 2017, police were alerted of the criminal activities in Transgogol when Gala and his gang were involved in an armed robbery in which they tried to kill a police officer and steal a rifle from them.
Meanwhile, Yamalu said the 16-year-old son of one of the gang members was killed at Sian village recently. He said the teenager became an innocent victim of the Transgogol killings.
