Lessons to learn for parents, guardians on girl abducted and held captive for a week

PORT MORESBY: Madang police rescued a 17-year-old schoolgirl who was abducted and held captive for a week in Lae.

And police say there is a lesson for parents and guardians to learn from this case - do not allow your children to leave home alone to a distant and unfamiliar place.

Why?

MADANG police rescued a 17-year-old schoolgirl who was abducted and held captive for a week in Lae.
Madang commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the girl’s captor, a 27-year-old man from Oro’s Pentorode village, was also arrested by a raiding police party that had a search warrant.
He said police acted on a missing girl police report lodged in Madang and obtained a search warrant.
“They then travelled to a house in Kamkumung’s Nips Street, Lae and found the girl,” he added.
Supt Rubiang said the girl had travelled to Lae to enquire about school admission.
“She then went to church where she met her captor who then took her to his house without her parents’ knowledge,” he added.
“I am pleased that the policemen responded quickly to rescue the girl before any unforeseen harm.
“I also want to warn the parents on the danger of allowing their children to travel afar alone because anything unforeseen can happen.
“Their children can become distraught and confused in an unfamiliar environment or place,” he added.
Supt Rubiang said girls were especially vulnerable and many had been victims of kidnapping and rape.
