Suspected drug addict stoned to death after killing councillor with bush knife
PORT MORESBY: A suspected marijuana addict who allegedly killed a councillor was stoned to death by bystanders at Tinsley Market in Western Highlands’ Mul/Baiyer on Feb 27, 2020.

By JAMES GUMUNOA MAN who allegedly killed a councillor at a market last Thursday was stoned to by death by bystanders, police confirmed.
The alleged incident took place at the Tinsley market in the Mul/Baiyer district of Western Highlands between 3pm and 4pm.
Baiyer Police Station commander Sgt Punta Las confirmed the incident where Timothy Saul, 30, an alleged drug addict, allegedly used a bush knife to kill Cr Koi Lamua.
Las said Lamua was at the market when Saul approached him with the knife and killed him. Bystanders then stoned Saul to death. Lamua’s clan members later chopped his body.
Las said people at the market were taken by surprise when Lamua was killed, and stoned Saul to death when he tried to escape.
“We do not know the motive of the killing of the ward councillor,” he said.
Las said Lamua’s clansmen also burnt down five homes belonging to Saul’s clansmen.
“Police are working with leaders from neighbouring Ukuni, Makan, and Manuraldia clans to stop further destruction and to restore peace,” he said.
The Tinsley Hospital, School of Nursing, Kumbareta primary and secondary schools are in the area. Classes have been suspended.
