THREE bouncers of a Port Moresby nightclub have each been charged with murder over an incident in June when they allegedly assaulted a man who later died from injuries sustained from the assault.
Appearing yesterday in the Waigani Committal Court were Junior Phillip, 27, of Yoriri village, Chuave, Chimbu, Samson Kerekere, 42, of Sapiape village, Malalaua, Gulf, and James Simet, 28, of Gaire village in Hiri, Central, who were each arraigned by Magistrate Garry Unjo for the alleged murder of Mekop Koya.
Police alleged that on June 27-28, between 4pm and 6am, the three men were at the nightclub where they allegedly assaulted Koya.
During the assault, Koya fell on concrete inside the club and sustained serious head injuries.
He was left lying in the car park area unattended for hours.
Koya was later admitted at the Port Moresby General Hospital where he went into coma for two weeks.
Doctors operated his brain where they found evidence of brain tissue damage caused from the fall during the alleged assault in the club.
On July 15, he died at the hospital.
Post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as blunt trauma to the brain.
The three accused were picked up by police at the club on July 22 and transported to the Boroko Police Station.
The men are out on bail for K2,000 each and their case was adjourned to Sept 7 for mention.
