TOMMY Baker’s gang raided a station in Milne Bay last week after being chased out of Alotau town by police, according to Alotau MP Charles Abel.
“The Rabaraba station was attacked by criminals last week, (with) fuel and engines stolen, teachers robbed and public servants threatened,” Abel said. He thanked the leaders and residents of the Makamaka local level government (LLG) for intervening to secure the station.
Police have been sent there to investigate.
“I have asked for a full report but am told they went to Keibogimogimo village and the gang fired shots using high-powered firearms at them,” Abel said.
He said police managed to recover some of the stolen items.
“I condemn the attack on the station, public servants and residents and the robbing of the Cape Vogel High School,” Abel said.
Abel said the police had a duty to do.
“When there is a law and order incident, their constitutional duty is to respond,” he said.
“I want the criminals to stop (disrupting) education and health services to our people at Rabaraba.
“I’m sorry for the public servants who were attacked and any innocent (person) affected in the raid.”
Meanwhile, a villager from Tarakwaruru in the Makamaka LLG said 28 houses were burnt down by police.
“Most of the neighbouring villages in the LLG towards the border with Northern were deserted.”
