More parties win a seat each, including an Independent

PORT MORESBY: More political parties, including an Independent, have won seats in Papua New Guinea (PNG)’s General Election 2022 (GE22).

Those who have won a seat each are People’s Progress Party (PPP), People First Part, United Labour Party, National Alliance, Liberal Party and Triumph Heritage Empowerment.

The Independent candidate who won was former PNG  rugby league great and national player Michael Marum.

He is now East New Britain governor. The incumbent, Nakikus Konga (PPP) did badly and was eliminated during the ballot count.

The ruling Pangu Pati is still leading in the progressive confirmed GE22 winners with nine seats, trailed by People’s National Congress  with six.
