PORT MORESBY: More political parties, including an
Independent, have won seats in Papua New Guinea (PNG)’s General Election 2022
(GE22).
Those who have won a
seat each are People’s Progress Party (PPP), People First Part, United Labour
Party, National Alliance, Liberal Party and Triumph Heritage Empowerment.
The Independent candidate
who won was former PNG rugby league
great and national player Michael Marum.
He is now East New
Britain governor. The incumbent, Nakikus Konga (PPP) did badly and was
eliminated during the ballot count.
The ruling Pangu Pati is
still leading in the progressive confirmed GE22 winners with nine seats,
trailed by People’s National Congress
with six.
