MANUS police have arrested two men for allegedly raping two nine-year-old girls in separate incidents in the past two weeks.
Commander Chief Inspector Kiweri Kesambi said the first rape occurred in Penabu Nali’s Nohang village at about 11pm on May 29.
“The Grade 1 elementary schoolgirl was raped by her stepfather,” he added.
The girl complained to her relatives about the rape and they brought her to the hospital and police.
Kesambi said the second rape occurred between 4pm and 5pm on June 13 (Queen’s Birthday).
“The girl was on her way home when a man threatened her with a knife and forced her into a house and raped her. He then threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the rape, and left,” he added.
The victim is also an elementary schoolgirl.
The victim told her parents about the incident and they reported the matter to the police.
In another incident, Kesambi said a man was fighting for his life in Lorengau Hospital after being stabbed with a kitchen knife by his wife during an argument last weekend.
He said the wife had surrendered to police and was now held in the Lorengau police station lockup.
