A POLICEMAN who allegedly shot dead a man in
Port Moresby in 2020 has been committed to stand trial in the National Court
for wilful murder.
Magistrate Paul Puri Nii said police had provided sufficient evidence against
Andrew Kupusu, 26, from Chambri Lakes, Wosera-Gawi in East Sepik
Magistrate Nii said the evidence, including photo exhibits and medical report
by all the witnesses were sufficient to make a prima facie case against Kupusu.
According to the brief facts, Kupusu was attached to the police Fox unit 204.
Police allege that Kupusu with other officers drove to the bus stop along the
main road at about 5pm and dispersed vendors selling betel nuts at the Rainbow
bus stop on June 6, 2020.
Police alleged that vendors escaped and the deceased, Ronald Kolip, was walking
towards a public bus when Kupusu stepped out of his vehicle, unzipped his waist
bag, drew a pistol and shot Kolip who fell instantly to the ground.
The matter was reported to the police on June 9, 2020, and police
investigations led to Kupusu’s arrest.
Kupusu was remanded in custody at Bomana prison.
