Nangoi passes on

SUMKAR MP and United Labour Party member Chris Nangoi has passed while on campaign in Madang.

Madang Provincial Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Fidelis Waipma confirmed last night that the MP died of a heart attack in the hospital at 4.30pm.

Nangoi was first elected to the 10th Parliament in 2017 as a member of the Pangu Pati and then joined the United Labour Party after the formation of the party in 2019.

Parliament records show that while in Parliament, he was appointed a member of the Public Accounts Committee between September 2017 and June 2019.

He served as Correctional Services Minister from July 7, 2019 to Nov 16, 2020.

Governor Peter Yama said it was such tragic news for the people of Madang to lose two incumbent MPs in this term of Parliament – Middle Ramu MP Jonny Alonk last November.

Nangoi was the ninth MP to die in office.
