TWO robbers were shot dead in a shoot-out with police in New Ireland’s Namatanai on Thursday.
Police have also recovered an assortment of firearms and ammunition, commander Chief Insp Felix Nebanat told The National yesterday.
He said 10 armed robbers arrived from East New Britain’s Kokopo in a boat between 7.30am and 8am on Wednesday.
“They then headed to a logging camp where they raided the camp manager’s house,” Chief Insp Nebanat said.
“The robbers surprised the manager who tried to resist and was stabbed in his left arm with a gun pointed at him. The robbers ransacked the house and took K10,000, three laptops, four hand phones, food and demanded the vehicle key to make their getaway toward East Coast Namatanai.”
Chief Insp Nebanat said police in New Ireland and Kokopo were alerted about the armed robbers making their way to Namatanai.
On Thursday, the suspects were spotted leaving Namatanai and policemen in two boats intercepted and a shoot-out ensued.
