A MALAYSIAN charged earlier this month with being in possession of unlicensed fire arms and ammunition has signed an indemnity receipt after checking them in Alotau.
Milne Bay-based Huong Haw Chin, 62, from Sarawak, who is out on bail, was told by police that the firearms, licences and ammunition had been moved to Port Moresby to be examined by the police forensic team.
Police in Alotau explained to Huong that he would have to prove to the court that all the ammunition were genuinely purchased from a recognised licensed firearms/ammunitions dealer.
The conditions of his bail include: two guarantors to pay K1,500 each; he is to remain in Alotau; he is to appear in court at a set date; he is not to interfere with witnesses and the case; and, he should not leave his residence at Toudikwa.
Police Commissioner David Manning told The National that Huong had a right to be out on court bail.
“Our officers in Alotau have worked hard and around the clock to investigate this case and other cases, they have assisted the officers in Alotau and I am pleased with their efforts, “he said.
