A GOVERNMENT department administration officer was arrested for beating his 54-year-old wife to death in Kokopo’s Kenabot Stage 2 on Sept 28, East New Britain police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali says.
“The officer had an argument with his wife and allegedly started punching and kicking her with his (industrial safety) boots,” he said.
Chief Insp Tabali said the man had been allegedly abusing his wife during domestic disputes for a long time.
“The violence started when the officer started having an affair with another woman,” he said.
Chief Insp Tabali said the officer’s wife, on Sept 16, went to Manus to take part in a dart competition which her employer hosted.
“When the wife returned home, the officer allegedly started assaulting her,” he said.
“In 2016, he allegedly started an affair with another woman, left his family and went to stay with his lover.
“In 2018, the wife and the children made peace with the officer and they got back together.
“The wife thought her husband had changed, but, instead, he allegedly continued beating her and the domestic disputes continued.”
Chief Insp Tabali said the wife, on Oct 9, felt very sick and she was rushed to the St Mary’s Vunapope Hospital to get treatment and medication, however, she died upon arrival.
The medical report found that she sustained serious injuries to her head and other body parts.
