POLICE are in the midst of identifying the fully armed mobile squad men who led the public to storm the Mendi Police Station on Tuesday, demanding Western End commander ACP Martin Lakari vacate his office.
“Those policemen and women involved in the ‘rebellion’ will face the full brunt of the law,” ACP Lakari said.
He said it was a rebellious act with armed policemen questioning the decision of the authority in the province.
ACP Lakari said policemen and women who did not feel good about a decision, they have to write to his superior/s to address their grievances.
“Instead, they led the public into the police station, “ he said.
“It is a rebellious act because they refuse to follow the command.
“The police hierarchy is in the province to investigate and deal with this issue internally and to identify the policemen and women involved, and to take appropriate actions immediately.
“This is not the way to address grievances in a discipline force.
“We will not allow or tolerate such conduct.”
ACP Lakari said a team of fully armed mobile squad had taken the lead to organise the “rebellion”.
“How can you question the office of the PPC (provincial police commander), ACP or the Commissioner?” he said.
“This is not professionalism.
“We will be conducting a full investigation into this uproar to bring to book those involved.
“We will get to the root of it and see who instigated it and why an armed group of policemen could rebel against the decision of their superior.
“The action of my policemen and women has painted a very bad name for the constabulary in the province.”
