POLICE in East New Britain (ENB) are looking for three men from Bitapetep village in Kokopo’s Raluana local level government (LLG) for allegedly gang-raping a young woman and keeping her captive for two days.
ENB police commander Chief Insp Joseph Tabali told The National yesterday in Kokopo that the alleged incident occurred between Nov 12-13 at Bitapetep.
Chief Insp Tabali said between 1pm and 6pm, the victim, a 22-year-old woman employed by Rhons Play School in Kenabot, was with her friends at their garden behind the school.
He said, while they were at the garden, three youths armed with bush knives approached the victim and forced her to follow a bush track along the side of a mountain.
They followed the bush track and arrived at Bitapetep village and took the victim to nearby bushes where they forced her to take her clothes off and then took pictures of her.
Chief Insp Tabali said the three suspects threatened to kill her if she tried to escape. He said the suspects then took turns raping the victim over the two days she was held against her will.
“There are lot of similar issues happening in our province caused by youths,” he said.
“We need to stop this and need the collaboration of parents, community leaders, churches and the government.”
