A MAN who has accused police of forcing him to drink urine and stealing his money will be sentenced today for possessing marijuana.
Malachi Ina, 26, from Apawe village, Yangoru, East Sepik, told Magistrate James Morog that after his arrest at Peter Block, Kamkumung in Lae on Oct 30, the police officers had taken K50 off him and then got his bank card and forced him to give them the pin number after which they withdrew K500.
He also claimed that other valuables had been taken from him and was forced to drink a bottle of urine.
Ina produced the withdrawal receipt of K500 in court to back his claim that money had been withdrawn from his account without his consent.
Magistrate Morog advised Ina to get a lawyer to help him file a separate case on the allegations that he had made against the police in court.
“You have raised some issues against the police when they arrested you.
“It would be good if you could identify the policemen involved and seek a lawyer to help you file a case on that,” he said.
Magistrate Morog told Ina that he had been found guilty of the charge of being in possession of marijuana and a decision on sentencing would be made today.
The police brief stated that Ina, on Oct 30, was riding a bicycle at Peter Block, Kamkumung in Lae and had a backpack and a white side bag.
A police patrol in the area tried to stop him, but he rode away and abandoned the bike and fled on foot.
The patrol caught him and upon searching him, found in his possession an amount of marijuana which he claimed was for his own consumption.
