Millions of Kina paid to foreign consultants since 2015
PORT MORESBY: The Justice and Attorney-General Department has
received a complaint that millions of Kina had been paid to foreign consultants
since 2015, Minister Bryan Kramer says.
He declined to comment whether the complaint was lodged
internally or externally, citing the Whistle Blower Protection Act.
“But we are aware of the complaint and issue,” Kramer
said on Friday (Jan 28, 2022).

THE Justice and Attorney-General
Department has received a complaint that millions of kina had been paid to
foreign consultants since 2015, Minister Brayan Kramer says.
He declined to comment whether the complaint was lodged internally or
externally, citing the Whistle-Blower Protection Act.
“But, we are aware of the complaint and issue,” Kramer said on Friday.
“At this stage, it is under review, so I am a bit reluctant to disclose
specific details until my office is able to establish all the issues and
specific facts surrounding it.
“What I can confirm is that my office received a letter of complaint raising
concerns in relation to these contracts, in the manner in which they were
awarded. So I made enquiries to establish whether the State solicitor had
approved the contracts.”
The advice that he was provided was that these foreign nationals, contracted
with the National Judicial Staff Service would need to go to tender given their
threshold.
“There have been a number of issues raised both verbally and now a formal
complaint has been raised. So it’s important to note that there were definite
issues to be looked into and now the department will go through the process to
establish what the issues are followed with a report,” Kramer said.
