A 28-YEAR-OLD former Information Technology (IT) specialist was yesterday committed to stand trial in the National Court for committing incest with his 20-year-old sister.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Garry Unjo, delivering his ruling, said: “Why would your own biological sister make such allegations against you?
“It is disgraceful for your sister to make such an allegation against her brother.”
Magistrate Unjo made the remarks after the man claimed he was confused with the decision.
“There must be something wrong,” Unjo said.
“The question is why a sister would bring about a false allegation against her brother.
“Evidence of her complaints of sexual penetration is reliable.
“The inconsistency of the evidence must be serious that it poses a threat on the merit of evidence.
“Evidence of the victim and the medical report is consistent, supported by two witnesses.
“The defendant is committed to stand trial on the charge under section 223 (1).”
The man returns to court today from custody for his statement.
Police investigations revealed that the house the man, his wife, child and sister lived in had only one bedroom and a living room.
They slept in the room.
The wife was pregnant so she left for the village with her daughter, leaving him with her sister at home.
The alleged offence was reported to have committed multiple times.
The first offence was committed at about 4.30am last May.

Court warrants arrest of man

THE Waigani Committal Court yesterday issued a warrant of arrest for a 19-year-old man, charged with committing sexual offences against a minor, for jumping bail.
Magistrate Garry Unjo issued the warrant after police prosecutor Sgt Christian Iga informed the court that Jeffrey Mundi had failed to appear for the fifth consecutive time.
Magistrate Unjo set aside the bail and fixed June 30 for a review.
Mundi, from Kundiawa-Gembogl’s Pari village in Chimbu, is facing two counts of molest and persistent sexual abuse committed against the girl at Murray Barracks in Port Moresby.
He was alleged to have sexually abused the girl on two separate occasions.
Police alleged that between 11am and noon on Dec 21, the girl was playing beside a drain with other children when Mundi chased them away and called the girl to come over.
Mundi allegedly touched her private area.
On Dec 23, between 4pm and 5pm, in the same location, the girl was playing with his younger sister.
It was alleged that Mundi was in his father’s house and called both girls to come to him because he wanted to tell them a story. However, he sent his sister into the house and allegedly lifted the girl onto his lap and caressed her buttocks and fondled her private parts.
