A 28-YEAR-OLD man was charged in the
Lae District Court with two counts of raping his two daughters aged three and
12 between June 16, 2018, and May 19.
Magistrate Pious Tapil read out the charges to the father, from Waria’s Aviasa
village in Bulolo and remanded him in Buimo Prison.
Magistrate Tapil told the father that there would be no bail granted to him.
He told the father that since this was his first appearance, he would be remanded
in jail for the next three months for police to complete his court files.
The magistrate fixed Dec 29 for next mention.
In the first charge, the father was alleged to have stripped his three-year-old
daughter and fondled her private part with his fingers in his Musom Tale
village house in Nawaeb on June 16, 2018, when his wife, a teacher, was away at
work.
Police said the girl cried out, but her father threatened her to stop crying
and not to tell her mother.
The court heard that after a few days of complaining about genital pain, her
mother checked her daughter’s genitals and found discharge that was stinky and
sought medical attention.
The father then went into hiding until he was arrested by police for allegedly
committing the same offence on the girl’s elder sister.
In the second charge, the father was alleged to have between Dec 10, 2020, and
May 19, raped his elder daughter at night when his wife was away.
The father was alleged to have closed his daughter’s mouth with his hand.
He allegedly threatened to kill her if she reported the acts to anyone.
The daughter then complained of frequent stomach aches, fainting and feeling
sick, which forced her to skip classes.
The court heard that on Sept 8, the daughter could not tolerate the ordeal
anymore and reported the alleged incident to her relatives who then lodged a
police complaint.

A MAN charged with a count each of
sexual penetration and incest has been remanded at the Buimo jail by the Lae
Committal Court.
Magistrate Pious Tapil, on Monday, ordered a warrant of remand for the
20-year-old man from Tewai-Siassi in Morobe for the next three months to allow
police files to be completed.
The man’s alleged act of sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16, the
victim was a 12-year-old girl, contravened Section 229 A of the PNG Criminal
Code (Sexual Offence and Crime against Children) Act 2002 as amended.
The defendant’s alleged second act of sexual penetration with a close blood
relative (his cousin) contravened Section 223 (1) (a) of the PNG Criminal Code
(Sexual Offences and Crime against Children) Act 2002 as Amended.
Magistrate Tapil told the defendant that he could make a proper bail
application in court if he wanted to.
The court was told that the man, on Sept 5, at Wanbel Market, Back Road in Lae
between 8pm and 10pm allegedly raped the girl.
Police claimed the defendant engaged in the act when the victim was with her
aunt.
The court heard that the victim was asleep and when she woke up, she found that
her trousers was cut up to her waist.
She looked around and saw the suspect sleeping on another bed nearby. Police,
upon complaint laid by family members, arrested and charged the defendant.
Magistrate Tapil said these criminal acts on minors by their own family members
and relatives were becoming prevalent in “our communities today”. The man will
appear for mention at the Lae Committal Court on Dec 29.

A MAN accused of breaching his good
behaviour bond by raping his wife in Alotau town, Milne Bay, is in custody,
acting Southern police commander Chief Supt Rigga Neggi says.
“The man was on good behaviour bond after recent conviction for domestic
violence,” he said.
“The good behaviour bond condition also stated that he must not go near his
wife.
“However, he didn’t consider his good behaviour bond condition and went to his
wife’s house at KB Compound.
“He then allegedly threatened his wife to have sex with him last Thursday.
“The victim reported the matter to the police resulting in the arresting of the
suspect.
“He has been charged with rape and breaching his good behaviour bond.”
Chief Supt Neggi said sexual offences were surging in Milne Bay and women should
be careful in their communities. “Also, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly
harassed sexually by a suspect on Samarai Island in Bwanabwana local level
government area last week,” he said.
“The minor was watching a movie on a laptop in her house with her younger
brother when the suspect walked into the house and sat next to the her.
“He then caressed her breast and genitals.
“She screamed and the suspect, who is known, escaped.
“Her family reported the suspect to the police resulting in him being arrested
and charged with sexual harassment.”
Chief Supt Neggi said in another incident, a step-father, 33, allegedly raped
his step-daughter, a minor, in their house last Tuesday at Toudikwa, Alotau.
“The suspect allegedly threatened his 14-year-old step-daughter with a knife,
forced her in his bedroom and raped her,” he said.
“The daughter, being fed up of her step-father’s persistent sexual abuse,
reported him to her mother and the mother reported it to the police.
“The minor told her mother that she had been abused by her step-father since
she was eight years old.
“The victim is the daughter of the mother’s previous husband.”
Chief Supt Neggi said the step-father was charged with persistent sexual abuse
and abuse of trust and authority.
