AN alleged child molester was beaten to death by a man and six women in the Back Road area on Saturday, Lae metropolitan commander Chief Supt Chris Kunyanban says.
“The murder suspects have been arrested and investigations are ongoing,” he said.
Chief Supt Kunyanban said the victim was alleged to have molested a little girl whose relatives mobilised to beat the man until he collapsed. “The man was rushed to the Angau Hospital where he was pronounced dead,” he said.
“This is a very unfortunate situation.
“Communities are fed up with such abuse against children and what has happened shows that these crimes against minors are becoming prevalent in communities.
“Since the beginning of this year, police have received increasing number of child molestation cases in settlements.
“I have been calling on parents and guardians to always know the whereabouts of their children.
“For minors, it is advisable not to send them to stores, the market or other places without the supervision and guidance of a parent or guardian.”
Chief Supt Kunyanban said this was the first time of relatives attacking an alleged child molester resulting in a death.
In another murder case, a woman aged between 20 and 25 was slashed to death in the neck in Bumayong last Friday.
“The woman earlier had an argument with her two relatives and the relatives got angry and allegedly slashed her in the neck with a bush knife,” Chief Supt Kunyanban said.
“The suspects are known but we are yet to arrest them.”
