A COURT has summoned National Capital District
Governor Powes Parkop and two of his senior officers to answer to charges of
contempt in relation to a land dispute with a company.
A complaint was lodged against Parkop and his senior officers by the TST Group
of Companies after the fencing it recently built around a piece of land it owns
at 5-Mile in Port Moresby – in compliance with a court order – was demolished
allegedly on the instruction of Parkop and city officials.
Deputy Chief Justice Ambeng Kandakasi last Friday issued orders to serve the
contempt document on Parkop, deputy city manager Ken Atasoa and urban safety
division director Paul Komboi.
The land was given to Capital Centre Ltd, a subsidiary of the TST Group of Companies,
in 1991 by the State in exchange for a piece of land it gave to allow the
extension of the Port Moresby General Hospital.
It is known as Portion 2192, Granville, Port Moresby, now called Jack Pidik
Park.
According to documents from Jema Lawyers, who are representing TST, Justice
Kandakasi summoned Parkop, Atasoa and Komboi to appear in court on Sept 9 to
defend themselves against the contempt charges.
