PORT MORESBY: Protestors marched through Mendi town yesterday (Sept
7, 2021) demanding that police re-look at the murder of University of Goroka
undergraduate Imelda Tupi Tiamanda.
The Mt Hagen district court had on Friday (Sept 3,
2021) dismissed the murder case in which Imelda’s husband, medical doctor Simon
Temo, 40, Ken Paul, 27, and Mombre Kasu, 42, were charged with the killing.
The trio were captured in May when police stopped
their car at a roadblock and found the body in the vehicle wrapped in a blue

A GROUP of people marched through Mendi town yesterday demanding that
police re-look at the case involving a woman’s death which was thrown out by a
court for lack of evidence.
Mt Hagen District Court Magistrate Leonard Mesmin last Friday released from
custody three men accused of causing the death of Imelda Tupi Tiamanda because
witnesses had failed to provide the evidence and facts of the alleged killing
during the committal hearing.
Imelda’s husband Dr Simon Temo, 40, Ken Paul, 27, and Nombre Kasu, 42, were
each facing the wilful murder charge.
They were charged with killing Imelda and trying to dispose her body when
police stopped them at a checkpoint.
Provincial police commander Chief Supt Martin Lakari commended the people for
staging a peaceful protest.
Lakari said businesses were not affected during the protest as people behaved
well.
The march yesterday started from Longo village and then into town.
Imelda’s father Tupi Tiamanda said the people had placed all their trust and
confidence in the justice system to deal with the case.
“We trusted the justice (system) of this country to fight on our behalf,” he
said.
“This protest is to show our frustration but we are doing it peacefully so our
voice can be heard.”
