Men who allegedly preyed on minors for sex

PORT MORESBY: Three cases of sexual abuses committed against minors were heard in the Waigani committal court yesterday (March 16, 2021).

The cases were:

> A 48-YEAR-OLD man from East Sepik, facing multiple charges of sex-related offences, raped his 12-year-old step daughter;

>A 45-YEAR-OLD man charged with using his finger to fondle a six-year-old girl’s vagina; and

> A TEENAGER charged with multiple sex-related offences against an eight-year-old girl.

Sadly, parents in Papua New Guinea just have to pay more attention to the security and well-being of minors, especially their daughters.

There are just too many sex predators in the country.

PNG Cyber Monitor reproduces below all three cases of sexual abuses on minors as reported by The National:

THE case of a 48-year-old man from East Sepik facing multiple charges of sex-related offences against his 12-year-old stepdaughter was yesterday adjourned to March 30 for submissions.
Waigani committal court magistrate Gary Unjo extended the man’s K2,000 bail.
According to police investigations, the man on Oct 6 took his stepdaughter out on the pretext of doing family shopping but, instead, took her to an apartment at 4-Mile, Port Moresby, where he allegedly raped her.
The man had allegedly taken the girl from their family home at Taurama Block to Boroko, promising her something good whilst she thought he was taking her shopping.
However, the man allegedly took her to an apartment at 4-Mile, Boroko.
In the apartment, the man allegedly fondled his stepdaughter’s breasts when she was in the shower.
When the girl stepped out of the shower room, the man allegedly continued fondling her breasts and raped her. When the girls’ mother called to check up on them, they left the apartment for Manu where they met the girl’s mother and returned to their Taurama home.
The mother became suspicious of the two and questioned her daughter but she denied anything had happened.
On Dec 12, the mother questioned her daughter again and she finally admitted to what had happened in the apartment.
The mother took her daughter to the hospital at the Family Support Centre and then to the Boroko police station to lodge a report. The man surrendered to the CID sexual offence squad and was subsequently charged with rape, abuse of trust and molest.

A 45-YEAR-OLD man who is charged with using a finger to fondle a six-year-old girl’s vagina was yesterday given two weeks by the Waigani Committal Court to prepare his submissions on evidence.
Magistrate Garry Unjo adjourned the case of Gibson Eric, from Goroka’s Nagamiufa village, Eastern Highlands, to March 31 and extended his remand.
Police alleged that on Oct 7, in the Bushwara settlement in 9-Mile, Port Moresby, at about noon, Eric was sitting and allegedly observing the girl and other children playing.
Eric allegedly called the girl over so he could give her K5 to buy three biscuits.
He then took the girl into the house and they went into the kitchen where Eric pretended to search for the money. Eric then took an aloe vera leaf and placed it on the girl’s sore leg.
Eric then allegedly lifted the girls dress and inserted his left pointer finger into the girl’s vagina.
The next day, the girl’s mother noticed that her daughter was unwell after she did not eat her dinner. She questioned her and she told her that she had been sexually abused by Eric.
Eric was then arrested and charged with sexual penetration of a minor.

Teen on sex-related charges jumps bail

March 17, 2021The NationalNational

A TEENAGER charged with multiple sex-related offences against an eight-year-old girl has jumped bail and the Waigani Committal Court yesterday had to adjourn hearing to March 30.
Magistrate Gary Unjo adjourned the case of Jeffrey Mundi, 19, who is charged with two counts of molest and persistent sexual abuse of the girl in Port Moresby’s Murray Barracks in two separate occasions.
Police alleged that on Dec 21, between 11am and noon, the girl was playing beside a drain with other children when Mundi chased them away and called the girl to approach him.
Mundi then allegedly used his left index finger to fondle her vagina.
Then on Dec 23, between 4pm and 5pm, at the same location, the girl was playing with Mundi’s younger sister. It was alleged that Mundi was in his father’s house and called out for both girls to approach him because he wanted to tell them a story.
However, he sent his sister into the house and allegedly lifted the girl onto his lap and allegedly caressed her buttocks and fondled her vagina.
Mundi, from Kundiawa-Gembogl’s Pari village, Chimbu, was later arrested and charged with the sex offences.
