THE Miss Tiare Vavine initiative is to create awareness on the importance of cultural heritage in Central, says patron Miku Agarobe.
She made the remark during the crowning of Miss Maraga-Robo Vavineleva Geno-Noga, who beat two other contestants during the event in Port Moresby.
Agarobe said the platform would “empower young women to become successful entrepreneurs not for themselves but for their communities”.
“It is a vision for young women who are culturally inspired in their communities,” she said.
When they launched the programme two years ago, seven young women from Central participated. But four withdrew before the crowning last weekend.
The three contestants were Miss Magaubo Angelyn Veratau from Gomore and Domara villages in Rigo and Abau districts, Miss Maraga-Robo Vavineleva Geno-Noga from Saroa village in Rigo, and Miss Geabada Sari Iamo from Gabagaba in Rigo.
The winner, Miss Maraga-Robo Vavineleva Geno-Noga said the K10,000 prize money would go towards helping communities by developing their land for agriculture.
Miss Maraga-Robo won the Best Topic presentation, Best Traditional Wear, Entrepreneurship award, and the best stage interview to claim the crown.
Miss Geabada won Best Regalia and was first runner-up.
Miss Magaubo was the second runner-up.
