A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl was slashed in a fight between drunkards in the Madang 2-6 settlement on Monday morning.
She was walking past the fight when one of the drunkards attacked and wounded her.
She was rushed to the hospital by her parents.
The group of drunkards also ransacked and looted several houses before setting ablaze a house.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the drunkards fled when police arrived but two of them were captured.
He said while the girl’s parents rushed her to the hospital, the villagers called the police.
“When police arrived, a house was on fire and the drunkards were in the midst of setting another house on fire,” he said.
“We shouted at them to stop and they fled.
“The two drunkards are in the Jomba Police Station lockup and they will be charged accordingly, pending investigations.
“The little girl who was attacked and wounded must lodge a police report for us to pursue an investigation.”
Acting Supt Rubiang said the people living in settlements and along the highway were causing many social and community problems, causing harm to innocent bystanders.
“Robberies, burglaries, assaults and murder are happening daily in Madang,” he said.
