A COMMITTAL court in Lae, Morobe, has ordered a 32-year-old man, charged with sodomising a nine-year-old boy, to remain in custody until the evidence is ready for the next hearing.
Magistrate Lorna Sani ordered Tom Kage, from Kerema’s Opao village in Gulf, to be remanded in Buimo Prison.
Magistrate Sani told Kage that he had committed a serious crime and, thus, the need to extend the remand.
She then adjourned hearing to Sept 19 and reminded him that he had the right to seek a lawyer and to remain silent when questioned by police.
Kage is alleged to have on Aug 13 at the Lae main market spotted the boy with his friends.
He then tapped the boy’s shoulder and told him to follow him to get a bag of tins to sell.
Police alleged that Kage then took the boy into thick bushes beside a hockey field leading to the drain where he sodomised the nine-year-old boy.
