Uni lecturer, three sons charged with attempted murder

PORT MORESBY: A university lecturer and his three sons, charged with attempted murder of a security guard, appeared before a committal court in Waigani yesterday (Aug 1, 2022).

Cletus Wangi Timus is still in Port Moresby General Hospital under life support and sedation since the assault on Jan 1, 2022.

A UNIVERSITY lecturer and his three sons charged with the attempted murder of a security guard appeared before the Waigani Committal Court yesterday.
The victim, Cletus Wangi Timus, a guard, has been in a critical condition at Port Moresby General Hospital and remains intubated with ventilator support and sedation since the incident on Jan 1.
Magistrate Danny Wakikura told John Arabel, 52, from Kohe village, Sinasina in Chimbu, and his sons Duetron Arabel, 22, Levi Arabel, 25 and Jelfred Mabira, 22, that the court had adjourned their case to Aug 15 for their submissions.
However, lecturer Arabel asked the court to set another date as his son Duetron would be sitting for his Grade 12 Written Expression examination on Aug 15.
Magistrate Wakikura then adjourned to Aug 18.
It was alleged that on Jan 1 between 7pm and 8pm at the University of Papua New Guinea staff residential area, Fort Banner, the four defendants who were allegedly drunk attacked Timus.
It was alleged that Timus had ridden on his motorbike to where the four were drinking when they attacked him with a knife and metal bar which caused him to fall off the bike and sustain injuries to his head.
It was alleged that during the time of the attack, lecturer Arabel defended his sons.
