Ninth Independent MP wins in Kagua-Erave

PORT MORESBY: Another Independent has won in the last 24 hours in Papua New Guinea (PNG)’s General Election 2022 (GE22).

Maino Pano won in Southern Highlands’ Kagua-Erave, ousting incumbent and Higher Edudation, Research, Science and Technology Minister Westley Raminai (Pangu Pati) who finished third.

A total of nine Independents have won seats in GE22 for the 11th Parliament which sat on Tuesday with the election of James Marape for a second term as prime minister.

Nine parties won more than one seat each (see details below) and 12 others won a seat each.

Details for the return of writs of 15 remaining seats in the 118-seat Parliament are still pending.
