Alleged rape victim found Sanctuary Hotel operations manager Jamie Pang attractive

PORT MORESBY: The woman who was allegedly raped by Sanctuary Hotel operations manager Jamie Pang told police in her statement that she found Pang attractive.

“Macky (Jack) (also) did not resist when Pang grabbed her hair and pushed her to perform oral sex on him,” Pang’s lawyer, Greg Sheppard submitted in a committal court in Waigani yesterday (May 19, 2022).

Sheppard then asked for the charge against Pang to be dismissed for lack of evidence.

SANCTUARY Hotel operations manager Jamie Pang has asked a Committal Court in Waigani to have a rape charge against him dismissed for lack of evidence.
Pang’s lawyer Greg Sheppard in a submission yesterday said the police file contained six statements from the victim which were unusual and inconsistent.
“The victim (Macki Jack) did not clearly say in any of her statements that she had refused to do what Pang had told her to do that time or resisted,” he said.
“Macki did not complain during the alleged events in the room,” he said.
Sheppard said Macki in her statements had not established that she did not consented to have sex with Pang.
“She in her statement found Pang attractive when she first saw him and wanted to have sex with him when he walked out from the bathroom naked.
“Micky did not resist when Pang allegedly grabbed her hair and pushed her to perform oral sex.
“To me, that implies that there was consent and Macki complained after saying she was not happy,” he added.
Sheppard said Macki had not clearly stated what she was unhappy about which could have been any one of the alleged offences that happened in Sanctuary Hotel room that time.
Sheppard said Macki had also sought to bring her parents into the matter to resolve it as she was allegedly seeking compensation.
Sheppard objected to the translated version of Macki’s statement which was originally obtained in Pidgin English saying the translator was not certified.
“The translator must be an independent body and must have a certificate of translate in order for the translated document to be verified.”
Police prosecutor Snr Sgt Chris Iga objected to the defence claim that there was consent given saying none had been given and Pang had forced himself on Macki.
Iga said although there were no threats, Macki felt threatened when she saw guns and drugs in the room and the fact the Pang was the hotel’s manager.
