SANCTUARY Hotel operations manager Jamie Pang, who is charged with raping a 20-year-old woman, has been served the police investigations file.
The file was served through defence counsel Greg Sheppard who then withdrew a notice of motion filed in a committal court in Waigani to have the case struck out for want of police evidence.
Sheppard then asked the court for two weeks to prepare the submission against the evidence. Magistrate Paul Puri Nii set May 19 to hear arguments from the police and Sheppard on the sufficiency of police evidence against Pang.
Pang, 43, from Sydney, was arrested on Feb 21 for allegedly raping the woman in Port Moresby on Oct 20.
Pang was arrested while in custody in the Bomana Detention Centre for breaching his visa conditions after he pleaded guilty to 11 charges under the Firearms Act and was fined a total of K130,000 by the Boroko district court.
He was also fined K4,000 for breaching his visa conditions.
Outside court yesterday, some of Pang’s employees and a team of mixed martial arts team gathered in a show of support.
