His son Ismael Yama is among 45 others challenging incumbent Madang MP Bryan
Kramer for the Madang Open seat.
Ismael is running under his father’s Peoples Labour Party (PLP).
At the close of nominations in Madang on Thursday, about 317 candidates were
confirmed to be contesting the seven seats including the provincial seat:
Madang, Sumkar, Middle Ramu, Bogia, Usino-Bundi and Rai Coast.
According to the tally collected provided by the election officials there were
41 candidates nominated for the provincial seat, 57 for Bogia open, Usino Bundi
with 37, Sumkar with the highest of 57, Middle Ramu with 43, RaiCoast with 54 and
Madang open with 47.
According to Madang election manager Sponsa Navi this added up to well over 300
who had been nominated to contest the seven seats of Madang.
Yama after being nominated announced to his supporters to behave in a peaceful
way and not hurt others who supported the other candidates.
Yama, who is the party leader of PLP, nominated more than 70 candidates
throughout the country and he is confident of retaining the provincial seat.
