PORT MORESBY: A teenager is dead and two others injured
in an attack allegedly by soldiers on Jan 3, 2023, National Capital District
Metropolitan Superintendent Chief Inspector Silva Sika says.
“We are working together
with military police to investigate the matter,” he added.
Sika said the soldiers picked
up the boys following an allegation that a bag belonging to one of the soldier’s
relatives was snatched by a youth from ATS First Block at 8-Mile.
“The boys were brought
to ATS Kiki Barracks for questioning. It was during questioning that the
soldiers allegedly assaulted the boys.
“It was believed that
hot water was poured on the boys’ bodies which caused serious burns,” he added.

A TEENAGER is dead and
another two are injured in an attack allegedly by soldiers on Jan 3, National
Capital District Met Supt Chief Insp Silva Sika says.
“We are working together with military police to investigate the matter,” he
said.
Sika said the soldiers picked up the boys following an allegation that a bag
belonging to one of the soldier’s relatives was snatched by a youth from ATS
First block at Eight-Mile.
“The boys were brought to ATS Kiki barracks for questioning,” he said.
“It was during questioning that the soldiers allegedly assaulted the boys.
“It was believed hot water was poured on the boys’ bodies which caused serious
burns.
“The boys were detained in the barrack’s guard house and released at 7am.
Two boys managed to leave but the third could not due to injuries.
“The boy was taken to the Air Squadron Base clinic and then to Port Moresby
General Hospital by a St John ambulance but he died on the way to hospital.
“One of the two injured teenagers was admitted to the emergency ward and the
other was given outpatient treatment,” he added.
Sika said the matter was reported to police and criminal investigations
division (CID) and forensics members attended to the crime scene.
“Five witnesses were identified,” he said, adding that military police were
notified to help CID investigators s to identify the soldiers allegedly
involved in the assault.
