Fined K500 for assaulting hubby’s lover

PORT MORESBY: A woman was fined K500 by a magistrate in Lae for assaulting her husband’s mistress.

Magistrate Pious Tapil told Ellis Kila, 38, on Wednesday (Jan 11, 2023) that he was converting her K300 bail into the fine and that she had to pay another K200.

Kila mitigated that her husband’s mistress, Monalisa Maipu, had provoked her.

A WOMAN was fined K500 by a magistrate in Lae for assaulting her husband’s mistress.
Magistrate Pious Tapil told Ellis Kila, 38, on Wednesday that he was converting her K300 jail into the fine and that she had to pay another K200.
Kila mitigated that her husband’s mistress, Monalisa Maipu, had provoked her.
Police prosecutor Emma Waliu advised the court that there was a preventive order by the village court for Kila not to go near Maipu.
“The law of domestic violence is to protect you and your children.
“We are in the city. Go to the right authority to help you address your issues.
Do not take the law in your own hands,” Tapil said.
Magistrate Tapil decided against awarding compensation to Maipu because the circumstance that led to the assault.
On Dec 28, at PTC China Town in Lae, Kila confronted Maipu who was walking towards a vehicle to go home after a funeral service.
Kila allegedly assaulted Maipu with an empty bottle.
Maipu screamed for help and was rescued by family members.
