Two women charged with assault

PORT MORESBY: Two women are facing assault charges in a committal court in Waigani for bashing up a woman in Port Moresby on Jan 2, 2023.

Magistrate Alfred Daniels told Merilyn Lembo, 48, and Esther Rema, 64, both from Southertn Highlands’ Ialibu-Pangia, to attend court hearings faithfully.

On Jan 2, 2023, an argument erupted between the two women and Joycelyn Pindipia in Sabama in the National Capital District.

The two accused allegedly attacked Pindipia who sustained serious injuries.

TWO women are facing assault charges at Waigani Committal Court for bashing another woman in Port Moresby earlier this month.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Alfred Daniels told Merilyn Lembo, 48, and Esther Rema, 64, both from Ialibu-Pangia in Southern Highlands to attend to their court dates faithfully.
“It is very important for you to attend the court on the dates that we set,” he said.
Police prosecutor Regina Kilip informed the court that both accused were out on K400 bail each and one of their co-accused was listed for hearing before another magistrate and would be transferred back to attend court with these two accused.
Daniels adjourned the case to Feb 23 and told the accused to follow their bail conditions. “You have to follow your bail conditions and attend to your court dates,” he told the accused.
Daniels explained the Committal Court process to the accused and told them that it was the duty of the police to carry out investigations and provide evidence before the court.
“You are innocent until proven guilty if the police provide evidence to sustain the charges,” he said.
It was alleged that on Jan 2, an argument erupted between the accused and the complainant Joycelyn Pindipia at Sabama in the National Capital District.
It was further alleged that the accused attacked the victim who sustained serious injuries.
The matter was reported to the police and the accused were arrested and charged.
