WILLIAM Wallace Michael, 21, is the second victim who had his jaw broken by policemen who bashed up his best friend, Samuel Naraboi, on Feb 27.
Michael is now recovering from the assault.
However, he has a broken right jaw, dislocated left jaw and a broken tooth.
His mother Judith Mamata told The National that the assault left her son unable to eat and talk.
“This is the third week that my son has to go through the pain.
“However, he still makes his way to 3-Mile to visit Samuel.”
William was with Samuel, the 21-year-old son of Senior Constable Benjamin Naraboi, when a policeman chased them from the Games Village onto the main road with the public with shouts of “steal man, steal man”. According to police, the public assisted and caught Samuel and the policeman punched him.
Samuel then fell at the edge of the traffic island and while he was lying on the ground, the policeman kicking him with his boots.
The public also joined in.
“Upon seeing, this William ran towards Samuel and tried to stop the policeman and the crowd from further assaulting him,” police alleged.
“The policeman then grabbed William by the collar and punched William into the drain.
“He then booted William on his jaw.
“William got up and ran into the Games barracks seeking refuge.”
William was rescued while Samuel was taken away by a NCD Fox Unit.

X-rays of William’s injuries.

Mamata said she received a phone call telling her what happened.
“I arrived at the Waigani police station and all I could see was the blood, my son’s face was covered by his own blood.
“I got a taxi and rushed him to the Gerehu Hospital as I tried to find out what had happened.
“I got the assistance of several policemen and I moved William to the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH).
“He and Samuel were admitted together but he was discharged later.
“The dental clinic in PMGH was helpful and they managed to put his jaw back with a piece of wire that is holding his jaw together and his broken tooth is now removed,” Mamata said.
Police are putting together the pieces of the assault on William for further charges to be laid against the policemen.
