POLICE have arrested four men for allegedly kidnapping and murdering an expatriate who was found in the Gereka hills in Moresby South on Sunday.
The Filipino man was found dead, face down, at about 9pm.
National Capital District/Central commander Assistant Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Jnr said police were notified of a missing person when the man did not return home after being picked up by a friend at about 4.30pm on Saturday.
The man was last seen at his Moresby North-East residence.
Wagambie said: “It is now known that he had been in contact with his PNG friend who had picked him from his residence.
“Police were alerted on Sunday afternoon when the man failed to return home. Police, using CCTV (closed-circuit television) footage from neighbours, identified the vehicle.
“Police fox units then found the vehicle and also picked up two suspects late Sunday afternoon.
“After interviewing the suspects, they were led to Gereka where the body of the man was found.”
He said CID investigators and fox units worked throughout Sunday night until the early hours yesterday and picked up another two suspects.
“We cannot release details of the man but can confirm he was an employee of a shop in Vision City,” he said.
“We can also confirm that he knew the person who picked him up, whom at the time, may have been a close friend. Investigators have good leads and are still working the case.”
