PORT MORESBY: Moresby Northwest MP Lohia Boe Samuel is believed to have accidentally shot dead a policeman’s nephew at dinner in Waigani’s Fusion 2 restaurant on Friday (March 11, 2022).

Robert Jerry, 38, was dining with Samuel, who is from the ruling Pangu Pati, when the alleged mishap occurred at about 8pm.

National Capital District CID head Supt Robert Volo said detectives were interviewing witnesses who were in the restaurant, including restaurant staff and diners.

A POLICEMAN’S nephew was believed to have been accidentally shot dead by a Member of Parliament (MP) at dinner in a restaurant in Waigani on Friday.
Robert Jerry, 38, was dining with the MP from the ruling Pangu Pati when the alleged mishap occurred at about 8pm.
National Capital District Criminal Investigation Department head acting Superintendent Robert Volo said detectives were interviewing witnesses who were in the restaurant, including restaurant staff and diners.
NCD/Central Commander ACP Anthony Wagambie Jr said there was no closed circuit television in the restaurant.
“Forensic police will carry out ballistic and other tests,” he added.
Police Commissioner David Manning told The National that enquiries at the crime scene were continuing and all protocols would be accorded to the MP.
“The MP will be called in for questioning,” he added.
Police also confirmed the forensic team would be reconstructing the crime scene with ballistics examiners today.
Jerry’s mother Magdeline said: “I want justice for the death of my son.
“My eldest son was a good man who wanted to do right for his wife and his seven children.
“He did not get into trouble and he wanted to look after all of us.
“I want justice for what has happened.
“We want the person who did this to be caught, charged and dealt with (by the law).
“He never did anything to hurt anyone.
“It was tough raising boys but they did everything for me.”
Grieving widow Betty said her husband wanted the best for the family.
“We struggled but he did everything he could to ensure we had food on the table.
“He was always supportive of people and he never had any ill intentions toward anyone. Robert was kind and very loving to us,” Betty said.
“The weeks prior to his death, he told us that he loved all of us very much.”
He is survived by his mother, two brothers, his wife and seven children, the eldest 21 and youngest nine months.
