A 26-YEAR-OLD father of one was slashed to death and beheaded in Usino-Bundi’s Ereh village in Madang last Friday.
Madang commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said Christopher Meta was murdered by a group of men but “we are yet to determine the motive”.
“We are still trying to identify the killers.”
Rubiang said Meta was chased by a group of armed men at about 6pm when he was caught in a nearby bush and slaughtered.
“Villagers saw the group of armed men moving around before the attack and murder,” he said.
Rubiang said policemen from Madang and Walium rushed to the scene when they were informed
of the killing but they were too late as the killers had already fled.
He appealed to villagers who had seen the group to come forward and help the police in identify them.
“Your name will not be revealed.
“We can only dissuade or stop such vicious and brutal attacks from happening again in the communities if the village leaders and community members help us nab such criminals.”
Rubiang said another killing was reported last Saturday in Baitabag and investigations were still in progress.
“Murder cases are on the rise in Madang,” he said. “In this month alone, more than 10 deaths had been reported in the province which included fatal traffic accidents.”
