A MAN who allegedly raped three boys in Port Moresby a year ago will stand trial in the National Court on three counts of rape and persistent sexual abuse.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Paul Puri Nii told Albert Tambo, 25, of Hoyabi village in Tari, Hela, that there was sufficient police evidence to commit him to trial.
He said the evidence showed that Tambo, on Dec 7, 2020, engaged in a sexual act with children under the age of 16.
Two of the boys were seven years old and one was eight.
Magistrate Nii said he found out that the boys were attending elementary schools.
“School-aged children can remember things, thus, there is no doubt (they) remembered actually what Tambo had allegedly done to them,” Magistrate Nii said.
Tambo allegedly led them to the 9-Mile last block, Morata back road and up into the grassland.
Police alleged that Tambo removed his trousers and forced the three to perform oral sex on him.
When they refused, Tambo allegedly took out a kitchen knife and threatened to harm them.
The boys, out of fear for their lives, allegedly followed what Tambo told them to do.
The case will return to court on April 26, 2022 for Tambo’s declaration statement.
