POLICE believe outsiders are supplying weapons to the warring ethnic clans engaged in a deadly feud in Bulolo’s Wau since March 27, Morobe commander Superintendent Jacob Singura says.
“This must stop,” he said.
“We already have information on the suppliers.
“We will come down hard on them when they are caught.”
The fighting has claimed nine lives and the destruction of more than 100 houses.
However, Singura said police had to date arrested 20 people, all of whom were believed to be directly involved in the feud.
He said four CID officers from the rural command and another three from Lae would be deployed here by the end of the week.
“This is to ensure that investigation reports are completed fast and those suspected of involving in the fight had to be brought before the courts quickly to ease the situation,” he added.
He said at the moment, the situation on the ground in Wau was still tense and fighting may erupt any time.
The fight between settlers from Finschhafen and Mumeng at Nami and Kapin, Ward 4, was sparked by a domestic quarrel between a husband and wife that got out of control.
Singura said police were waiting for the arrival of Bulolo’s Mobile Squad 15 from Tabubil in Western.
When the squad arrives, we will be looking at calling back the Northern Mobile Group members who are currently on the ground in Wau.”
