THE WAIGANI Committal Court has committed lawyer Greg Sheppard to stand trial in the National Court yesterday.
Sheppard, 65, from Perth, Australia, was charged with two counts each of obtaining by false pretense, conspiracy to defraud, misappropriation of property, money laundering and one count each of forgery, uttering and attempting to pervert cause of justice. Magistrate Danny Wakikura asked Sheppard if he was ready to make his defence submission.
Sheppard through his lawyer Laura Painap told the court that he decided to remain silent on his defence submission. Magistrate Wakikura said there were enough evidence found on all the nine charges in the last ruling therefore ruled Sheppard to stand trial.
“It appears to be a serious matter in which Sheppard can properly defend himself in the trial court,” he said. “It would be proper for Sheppard to test the huge volume of evidence in the proper trial court.
