A 20-YEAR-OLD woman
told a Committal Court in Waigani, in her submission, that the mother consented
to prostituting her 12-year-old daughter.
“My husband said to send me some money through his brother and said for me to
arrange a girl for him as requested,” Jenny Omoa said.
“I called the girl’s mother and told her about it and she brought her daughter
from the village and left her with me.
“The next day, I took the girl to Unagi Oval in Port Moresby to meet my
brother-in-law, took the money that my husband sent and left the girl with
him.”
Omoa said she did not know what happened after that.
Omoa, from Kairiku’s Orai village, Central, is charged with obtaining the
services of a child for prostitution, facilitating child prostitution and
receiving benefit from child prostitution.
Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Joseph Sangam said the police would stick to
the allegation that money was given in ex-change of services were pre-planned.
Magistrate Paul Puri Nii said the court would make a ruling on the evidence on
May 26. At about 4.30pm last Aug 2, Omoa invited the girl to spend a night with
her at her home in Port Moresby.
At about 7am the following day, she allegedly took the girl to Unagi Oval in
Gordon, left her with two men saying she was going to buy betel nut. She did
not return.
After two hours of waiting, the men took the girl to a bank in Waigani,
withdrew some cash and took her to a guest house in a taxi.
When the girl asked the men where they were going, she was told that they were
going to have sex with her as they had already paid Omoa K100.
But when they reached the guest house, police who were there investigating
another case questioned the girl why she was with the two men. She told them
everything and Jenny was arrested.
This was a planned event consented by those involved without the girls consent.
ReplyDeleteThe culprits I am sure was not told about this arrangements and therefore became a prey.
Those involved in this unacceptable event ir case should be prosecuted ans the victim should be compensated for putting her in these situation.
