A MAN charged with allegedly raping his 12-year-old adopted daughter has informed a court that he has filed his defence submission and served it on the prosecution.
Kelly Kamane, 56, from Miking village in Chuave, Chimbu, told the court that he filed his own defence submission with his lawyer’s assistance.
Kamane was represented by Office of the Public Solicitor lawyer David Kayok.
Police prosecutor Peter Samghy told the court that he was informed by Kayok that since Kamane filed his own defence submission, he (Kayok) would just help him.
Waigani Committal Court magistrate Danny Wakikura told Kamane to inform his lawyer to appear on Friday to represent him.
“Also inform your lawyer that if your bail application is ready, I can hear your bail as well on Friday with your defence submission,” Wakikura told Kamane.
The case was adjourned to Friday for defence submission.
Police alleged that between July 6-11 last year, Kamane had been having anal sex with his adopted daughter at their family home in Morata in the National Capital District and threatened her not to tell anyone.
Police alleged that Kamane also beat the victim while raping her.
She ran away to a safe home and lived there for three months and they helped her with a medical report and she laid a formal report with the police.
Kamane was later arrested and charged with the sexual penetration of a minor.
