Six schoolboys among 11 robbers in Madang

PORT MORESBY: Six school students were among an armed gang of 11 robbers who raided a shop in Madang on Friday (Dec 16, 2022).

Madang Commander Supt David Seine said the students were a Grade 5 from Jomba Primary, a Grade 8 from Ambarina Primary, a Grade 9 from Tusbab Secondary, another Grade 9 Saidor High School, a Grade 10 from Segu High School in Goroka and a Grade 12 from Transgogol Secondary School.

The rest of the robbers were aged between 20 and 32.

Six students were part of an armed group that robbed a shop in Madang on Friday.
According to provincial police commander Supt David Seine said the students in total were involved in robbing the Ideal Investment Ltd.
“The students were identified as a Grade Five from Jomba Primary, a Grade Eight from Ambarina Primary, a Grade Nine from Tusbab Secondary, another Grade Nine from Saidor High School, a Grade 10 from Segu High School in Goroka and a Grade 12 from Transgogol Secondary School,” he said.
Supt Seine said the students lived at different locations in the town area, but they gathered to commit the robbery where they were all caught.
He added that adults between ages 20 and 32 were involved in the robbery.
Seine said they entered the shop armed with a factory-made pistol, three home-made guns, an axe and bush knives.
He said they robbed items worth more than K10,000 and substantial amount of money.
“According to police officers and eyewitnesses, four suspects, while in the act, were notified of the police presence.
“They cut open the ceiling of the building, jumped over the fence, and were trying to run towards Mabarosa when they were caught,” he said.
It was reported that the armed men fired shots at police but no policeman was shot.
However, police shot and wounded five of the 11 suspects and were now nursing wounds at the hospital.
The others were taken to Jomba police station and were detained in the cell.
