Southern Highlands GE22 manager arrested for
misappropriating K5 million
PORT MORESBY: Police arrested and charged Sothern
Highlands General Election 2022 (GE22) manager Alwynn Jimmy yesterday (Dec 154,
2022) with misappropriating K5 million from the provincial electoral trust
fund.

Chief Insp Joel Simatab said Jimmy was charged with one count each of
misappropriation, abuse of office, money laundering and conspiracy to defraud.
He said Jimmy, 61, from
New Ireland’s Kopkop village was arrested in Kina Ban Harbour City and driven
to the 7-Mile airport police station for an interview with the special
investigations team.

election manager Alwynn Jimmy was yesterday arrested and charged at the Boroko
Police Station with misappropriating K5 million from the provincial electoral
trust account.
Police crimes director Chief Inspector Joel Simatab said Jimmy was charged with
one count each of misappropriation, abuse of office, money laundering and
conspiracy to defraud.
He said Jimmy, 61 from New Ireland’s Kopkop village in Kavieng District, was
arrested at Kina Bank Harbour City and driven to the Seven-Mile Airport Police
Station for an interview with the special investigations team.
It was alleged that during this year’s General Election 2022 (GE22), a
subsidiary trust account was created by the Electoral Commission for the
province’s election operations.
Police brief stated that, Jimmy in his position, used and paid his own hire car
business with three separate cheques totalling K373,460 between May and Aug.
The GE22 subsidiary trust account was created in April with four account
signatories, with special instructions that only two could sign.
Police stated that the signatories for the Southern Highlands subsidiary trust
account were Jimmy, Grace Wong (assistant election manager), Kevin Puruno
(provincial manager) and Susan Dakuma (acting provincial accountant).
Police alleged that on May 20 a payment of K56,660 was paid to Kuranebou Hire
Cars, Jimmy’s registered hire car company.
They further alleged that another payment of K158,400 was made on July 5 and on
Aug 11 a payment of K158,400 was paid to the same hire car company.
Police investigations have revealed that through documents, records and details
from the Motor Vehicles Insurance Ltd, Jimmy had five vehicles registered under
his name.
He was later driven to the Boroko Police Station and detained.
