One shot dead, another injured in Gordon's Gabaka Street slaying

PORT MORESBY: A man was shot dead and another injured in an early Monday morning shooting in Gordon’s Gabaka Street, National Capital District/Central Assistant Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Jr says.

“According to eyewitness reports, the two men were walking along the street at about 4am when they were shot at by a man in a vehicle.

“The shooter got out of the vehicle and fired at his targets,” he added.

Two men were shot early Monday morning around 4am at Gabaka Street, Gordon, says assistant police commissioner NCD/Central Command Anthony Wagambie Jr.
Wagambie Jr said according to eyewitness’ reports, the two men were walking along Gabaka Street with others when they were shot at by a suspect in a vehicle.
“The vehicle pulled up with the suspect getting out and shot the men.
“One of the men was killed at the scene while the other is fighting for his life at the Port Moresby General Hospital.
“Crime Investigation Division (CID) Homicide attended to the incident and investigation is continuing,” he said.
National Capital District Metropolitan Supt Chief Insp Silva Sika said the deceased was a man from Hela and the other from Eastern Highlands.
“The man from Hela was shot on the neck and man from EHP was shot in his stomach.
“The Hela man died instantly and the EHP man was rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital and he is currently stabilised.”
Sika said the suspect fled after the shooting and the motive behind the shooting was unknown.
He urged public with information about the white Mark II vehicle registration plate C.. 655 to come forward to CID at Boroko Police Station.
Meanwhile, police had started an investigation into the incident allegedly involving a soldier who attacked and destroyed Port Moresby General Hospital equipment on Sunday.
Wagambie Jr said police were working closely with the hospital’s management to ensure that those responsible were held accountable.
“PNGDF commander Major-Gen Mark Goina has been supportive and we are working closely with the military police to identify the soldier who was involved in the incident at the hospital,” he said.
