Wabag MP Dr Lino Tom was given more time by the National Court to file one more witness statement on bribery allegations against him during General Election 2022 (GE22).
Judge Joseph Yagi in Waigani last Wednesday said bribery was a serious allegation and that an exception could be made for more time.
“At the end of the day, the interest of justice is paramount,” he added.
The case was adjourned to Jan 18 with the affidavit by witness Christopher Guy expected to be filed and served before the next hearing.
Justice Yagi added that Lino would pay some cost for delaying the trial.
Meanwhile, in an election-related allegation of a murder plot by Abau MP Sir Puka Temu against a witness on Abau candidate Evele Kala, Justice Yagi adjourned the case to hear arguments.
Kala’s lawyer Gloria Salika filed to move the motion last Wednesday but it was intervened by Sir Puka as he needed time to file a response to the allegations.
Justice Yagi said every citizen had the right to be heard on allegations held against them.
