A COMMITTAL court in Waigani has given a month
to a Seventh Day Adventist pastor, who is charged with molesting a
five-year-old girl in Port Moresby, to file his defence submission.
Magistrate Paul Puri Nii told Robin Havena, 56, from Henganofi’s Kuana village
in Eastern Highlands, to submit his defence on Jan 9.
Office of the Public Solicitors lawyer Kim Watakapura, who represented Havena,
said the adjournment was not an issue to his client.
“I will complete the defence submission for Havea to be presented at the courts
convenience’,” she said. Magistrate Nii then advised Watakapura to advise
Havena of the returnable date as he had hearing impairment.
On May 1, Havena allegedly grabbed the girl, took her to his house in June
Valley where he fondled the girl’s vagina with his fingers.
The next day, the girl then told her mother what had happened after falling
sick.
The girl was taken to the hospital where an examination confirmed that she had
been sexually assaulted.
The girl’s parents then reported the matter to police in Waigani.
