18 Covid-19 deaths in a day in PNG

PORT MORESBY: Eighteen new Coronavirus (Covid-19) deaths were recorded on Monday bringing Papua New Guinea’s death toll to 628.

According to the National Control Centre, this was the highest number of deaths reported in a day this year.

The number of new infections was 162.

EIGHTEEN new Coronavirus (Covid-19) deaths were recorded on Monday bringing the total number of the Covid-19 induced deaths to 628, according to the National Control Centre (NCC).
From the daily dashboards released by the NCC, this is the highest number of deaths reported in a day so far this year.
The number of new cases reported on Monday was 162.
The total number of the Covid-19 cases as of Monday was 38,833 of which 36,860 have recovered and 1,345 were still active (diagnosed in the last fourteen days).
For the variants, the Delta cases were 708 and Omicron one which have been the same since last month.
In terms of the Covid-19 vaccination, as of Tuesday, 242,362 people have been fully vaccinated and 301,170 have received one dose.
In the last 24 hours, from Tuesday, 387 doses were administered.
So far, 408,063 doses had been administered of which 243,179 were AstraZeneca, 144,711 were the Johnson and Johnson and 20,173 doses were the Sinopharm.
The NCC announced yesterday that a press conference on the Covid-19 situation in the country would be held today after cancellations of the weekly press conference in the last three weeks.
